There’s not much point in having a website if no-one can find you!
You may have heard of Search Engine Optimisation and been led to think that it is a dark art that requires a lot of time and money spending on it. But it’s really just about applying some common sense to your design and content and putting in place certain features to ensure that search engines find you.
The basics of good SEO
This works best if you plan it from the start so as part of my basic website design and build I will ensure that you site is constructed on good foundations so that search engines can find it. These include:
- Well written, applicable content which contains the right keywords. Not necessarily the jargon you may use in your business but terms that potential customers will search for.
- Page titles that describe clearly whats on the page and give your business name.
- The use of ‘alt tags’ on all your images so that they are found by search engines too. Search engines can’t read pictures so giving your pictures a proper title like ‘johns driving school car’ will give an extra boost to your site.
- Promoting your content in other places that are of relevance to your site. This could be anything from submitting you site to search engines and local business listings to specialist forums.
- Setting up analytics so it’s easy to see how many people are visiting your site, where they are coming from and what terms they are searching on. that way it’s easier over time to fine tune your marketing message to appeal to your customers.
- Creating internal page links and a site map so that search engines can easily find their way around your site.
